Each year the Deloitte Fast 50 index identifies and celebrates the fastest growing businesses in the country. This year, Special Group were recognised as New Zealand's 16th fastest growing, and picked up the Auckland/Upper North Island 'Fastest Growing Business Service to Business' award. Our accountant will be pleased.
The Caxtons Awards celebrate the best newspaper advertising in Australasia. And we were celebrating picking up 4 Caxton awards, including the prestigious Quinlivan Black award - awarded to the single most outstanding example of advertising in a newspaper medium. The interesting thing was that they were all awarded to a piece of digital work - the Orcon Living Office banner. It's the first time the best in show has gone to a digital ad, and the first time a New Zealand agency has won Caxtons Best in Show.
It was a huge night for Special Group and our clients at The Best Awards, New Zealand's premier design awards. We picked up two golds - one for the ecostore range in Packaging, and the other for the FOUR Duck launch in the Designed Object category.
We always talk about our integrated design and communications model; here it is in action.
A banner from our 'Not Rugby' campaign for FOUR featuring Stewie from Family Guy has been picked as the bi-monthly winner of the IAB Bolly digital awards. The prize was a large bottle of Bollinger. Cheers little man...
Our first campaign for Baileys, '9:09 is Baileys time' was awarded a gold in the small budget category of the Canon Media awards. This is the first time Baileys has won any marketing awards in its New Zealand history. It's a great start to returning this iconic brand to every drinks cabinet in the country.
Last night, at New Zealand's premier creative awards, we picked up four golds for the Orcon Business Banner (the Interactive Axis, and in Direct Response, Online Advertising and Digital Craft). Our Volvo Blindfold Test Drive also picked up a bronze. This result placed us second highest awarded agency on the night behind Colenso BBDO. The panel of international judges included Andy Fackrell (180, Amsterdam), Brian Rowles (72 and Sunny, LA) and Dejan Rasic (Coleman Rasic, Sydney).
For the third year in a row Australasia's leading creative marketing magazine Campaign Brief has ranked Special as the hottest independent agency in the country.
Actually that's every year since we launched. Which is all very ironic if you knew just how cold our offices get in the winter.
We've just seen off competition from across the whole of Australisia to secure the title of Emerging Agency of the Year at the B&T Awards, run by the region's largest industry publication. It was a great night at the Randwick Convention Centre in Sydney, which fortunately fell on a Friday.
Special won the Fairfax/Admedia Independent Agency of the Year on Tuesday night. That's the second year in a row. Judges said, "They pulled off a great business performance with really good work - content that demands attention".
Award is the renowned Australian advertising show that accepts entries from NZ, AUS and across ASIA. It is also notoriously tough.
A total of just six gold pencils were given out over the entire evening, but Special had its name on one. 90 judges from across the region selected the winners from 2000+ entries. We also took home two silvers and a bronze for the Orcon+Iggy campaign and another two silvers for our Orcon 'Living Office' banner, making Special the 7th most awarded agency in the region.
Iggy and the Stooges played a brilliant set of Raw Power at the Auckland BDO. Earlier in the week Iggy's manager mentioned how much Iggy spoke about winning the Cannes Grand Prix and so after the show we met up and gave him the award. It's not every day that the God Father of Punk shakes your hand and says, "you did good, real good".
